Situation A childhood developmental services organization was experiencing explosive growth with the rapid succession opening of six branch offices throughout the country.
This growth, coupled with new employees with varying technology requirements, led the client to seek a solution that would reorganize its legacy systems and processes into more functional, redundant, and scalable ones.
In addition, the client faced challenges in modernizing the process to access this information. At the forefront of these challenges was to provide branch office employees reliable access to centralized information at the head offices, while creating a redundant, scalable, and fault tolerant network, which would not exceed their budget or create liabilities in the future.
Approach
Red Paladin was called upon to assess the changing needs of an expanding client, and to put an action plan into place. Thus, a virtualized solution – RP Helix Virtualization using Infrastructure as a Service – was recommended.
This relocated and redirected all information to a Tier 3 Data Center. All existing equipment was repurposed to expand the capacity of data that could be stored on it. Using VmWare as a backbone, all data was migrated to a secure, “always on” facility. Utilizing existing ISP lines, while also provisioning new ones, the client was able to create a centralized, redundant, and scalable infrastructure in an environment that now provided reliability for legacy and new equipment.
Outcome

Other advantages were numerous: existing equipment was repurposed to be utilized as local and non critical resources, dramatically reducing the need to purchase new equipment; built-in disaster Recovery and Business Continuity were provided through High Availability and Fault Tolerance of Virtual Servers; created a based for employees to adapt to “thin client” technology, eliminating the need to purchase new Desktops and Laptops, and; provided a solution which has an ROI based in reduced electrical, real estate, HVAC, Hardware, Software, Licensing, Technical Support, and ISP charges, which were realized in just four months.
In addition, the entire solution was implemented with no significant downtime – just under 24 hours during weekends and holidays.
